4000 SERIES
RACKMOUNT & DEVELOPMENT ENCLOSURES
The 4000 Series consist of five (5) classes of enclosures that are classified by the ruggedization level and intended application. A variety of standard products and reference designs exist for all classes that can be further customized.
These flexible reference designs can support any enclosure height ranging in size from 1U to 12U and are well suited to support any backplane configuration to include VME, VME64x, VXS, VPX, cPCI, PCIe, PICMG and custom. Server-class or commercial motherboards (ATX) and embedded SBCs (ITX, EPIC, etc.) of any type can be configured. Stackable Small Form Factor (SFF) configurations such as PC104 are supported

Class 4100 MIL-Spec Chassis Overview:
- Fully MIL qualified (MIL-STD-810 & MIL-STD-461)
- Reference designs available for all rack heights between 1U and 12U
- Machined housing with shock isolated inner chassis
- Supports all passive backplane architectures, PICMG, motherboard and embedded form factors
Class 4400 Industrial Chassis Overview:
- Industrial Grade using military design concepts
- Reference designs available for all rack heights between 1U and 12U
- Rigid and lightweight aluminum chassis
- Supports all passive backplane architectures, PICMG, motherboard and embedded form factors
Class 4500 Development Systems Overview:
- Lab grade and intended for developmental purposes
- Available in half and full width for use with 3U or 6U plug in boards with RTMs
- Supports all passive backplane architectures such as cPCI, VME64x, VXS and VPX
- Contact NIS for conduction cooled and new air-flow-through support systems
Class 4600 Flush Front Crate Overview:
- Commercial/Industrial grade chassis with flush front ideal for space limited applications
- Available in rack heights from 1U to 12U with various options and configurations
- Supports all passive backplane architectures such as cPCI, VME64x, VXS and VPX
- Contact NIS for motherboard and peripheral options as well as customized I/O panels.
Class 4700 Recessed Front Crate Overview:
- Commercial/Industrial grade chassis with recessed front to help aid in front panel cable installation
- Available in rack heights from 1U to 12U with various options and configurations
- Supports all passive backplane architectures such as cPCI, VME64x, VXS and VPX
- Contact NIS for motherboard and peripheral options as well as customized I/O panels.
General Construction:
- Formed sheet metal (aluminum 5032-H32)
- Machined aluminum (aerospace grade 6061-T6) housing (Class 4100 only)
- Carbon fiber, composites and advanced materials optional and used as necessary
- Chemical film per MIL-C-5541, Class 3, Gold Color (Class 4100 and 4400) or clear (Class 4500, 4600 and 4700)
- Customer defined MIL-Spec painting and silk screen or engraving
Dimensions:
- Rackmount sizes 1U to 12U standard (except tabletop development systems)
- Custom non-standard dimensions are easily adapted from reference designs

- Custom I/O panels can be discretely wired, plug into the backplane via right angle connectors, and/or utilize semi-rigid flex circuitry to maintain a homogenous backplane and I/O board structure.
